Hannan Binth Hashim looks like media hype
One of today's (14th September 2009) search phrase is Hannan Binth Hashim, a class X student from Kozhikode.
One website screams "SPEED OF LIGHT IS NOT CONSTANT!! NEW THEORY BY 14 YEAR OLD INDIAN GIRL". Another says "Hannan Binth Hashim: A 14-year-old with astrophysicists".
Here is one
Hannan Binth Hashim the 14 year old class X girl from Kozhikode will deliver her lecture on astrophysics at Universities of Boston, Chicago, Texas, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and 17 others across the world. Hannan Binth Hashim is an aspiring astrophysicist and mathematical researcher. In her research titled 'Absolute Theory of Zero' she questioned the accuracy of many existing theories like Albert Einstein's 'Theory of relativity' and the Big Bang Theory. Some of the facts about this,
Hannan Binth Hashim has Dr Soumya Vasudevan, a Hind Rattan award winner as her mentor and her works are being considered for publishing in 'American Journal of Theoretical Physics'.
According to Hannan Binth Hashim "Absolute Theory of Zero is a new mathematical system which explains the established theories in a different light. Through the theory she has explained that the speed of light is not constant always.
Hannan Binth Hashim's works have been appreciated by former President A P J Abdul Kalam, scientists at IISc, IIMSc and many leading research institutes around the world including NASA.
Hanaan participated in the NASA space camp held in August and a model rocket designed by her was launched. She will be participating in the Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology competition for high school students in October this year in the US where she is likely to meet US President Barack Obama. reports
- I doubt on IIMSc , is there any institute named IIMSc ?
- There is no update on Wikipedia no article about Hannan Binth Hashim on wiki.
- There is no online media saying about President A P J Abdul Kalam appreciation, no proof about it.

Hannan Binth Hashim is not a media hype at all. She is from Kozhikode.Let us wait for that day she is presenting her 'absolute theory of zero' before Nobel prize winners at NASA. She already got space graduation award from NASA. India will be proud of her.Because she is gonna write India's name in history...Hannan go ahead

The news abt. Hannan has been published by reliable sources, so it doesn’t seem 2 b a hype…. As to ur doubts, i would like 2 clarify that 1) IIMSc. stands for Indian Institute of Mathematical Sciences located at Chennai, India…… 2) Though Siemens Westinghouse Sc. & Tech comp’t is open only 4 US students, Hannan has been given exemption bcoz of her excellent track records…… & finally 3)Dr. Soumya Vasudevan was awarded Hind Rattan award on Jan.25th , 2006.

hi hannan
i am proud of u
Its 100% fake 4 sure. I really can’t undrestand how come such a popular & famous newspaper is making such blunders by publishing these kind of news without any verification. Any normal person with some common sense will doubt this article or else I would say if anybody believed it, they must be either fools or doesn’t have any thinking capacity. It is a big shame of the media to manipulate the news and send to the whole world !!
i am so proud and wish i could do something for u!!!!!!!
i will pray for u
nazreen
i m proud of hannan

After a mere 10 minutes of research on NASA’s website, I can assure you that there is absolutely no way that a young girl, barely a teenager, was “invited” to participate in groundbreaking research. There are several different programs offered for children that age, BUT all of these programs are simply summer camps; the types of places where everyone is awarded a medal and a certificate for participation. In order to participate in anything that even resembles research, one must have completed at least part of a U.S. undergraduate degree and go through a rigorous application process.
I am completely shocked by the lack of fact checking, on behalf of Indian publications. While it is always exciting for Indians to hear about the accomplishments of other Indians, it is a completely different story for media-outlets to blindly believe the stories of a teenage girl. She speaks of scholarly publications that do no exist, in addition to fictional research programs, and “special” admission to MIT — and people are suddenly in awe of this supposed child prodigy. So powerful was this naivete that Hannan, through unknown sources, funded two separate trips to the U.S., (the second time bringing her mother along as well), where she simply frolicked here and there with various strangers. All this happened while she was telling both her hosts and her supporters that she was amidst “serious research” and “paper publications” at MIT. Such uncontrolled, outrageous lying.
Something to say?
