The ruling BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has called for Karnataka ‘bandh’ on Saturday, 22 January 2011 to protest the governor’s decision. But it clear that essential services such as hospitals, milk supply, etc., would be exempted from the bandh.

Educational institutions were close, state-run buses went off roads, and a few vehicles were stoned in Karnataka on Saturday as the BJP organised a daylong shutdown to protest governor H R Bhardwaj's move to allow Yeddyurappa's prosecution.
